Here's An Internet Explorer 7 Tip
Get sound alerts for RSS feeds in Internet Explorer
If you’re always on the lookout for new RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds, you probably look to see if the new Web site you’re browsing features a feed. To make this easier, you can configure Internet Explorer 7 to automatically alert you that the page you’re currently visiting has an RSS feed. Here’s how:- Launch Internet Explorer 7.
- Press [Alt] to bring up the standard menu, then pull down the Tools menu and select the Internet Options command.
- When you see the Internet Options dialog box, select the Content tab.
- Locate the Feeds section and click the Settings button.
- When you see the Feed Settings dialog box, select the Play A Sound When A Feed Is Found For A Webpage checkbox.
- Click OK twice — once to close the Feed Settings dialog box and once to close the Internet Options window.
Now, each time that Internet Explorer 7 locates an RSS feed on a page, it will play a designated sound.

Microsoft has released the first beta of its Internet Explorer 8
.
This beta version of the web browser is primarily for those involved in web development and the code comes with the warning that it's unstable and not recommended for casual download.
New features include WebSlices (a jazzed-up version of RSS feeds), an improved phishing filter and an automatic crash recovery tool.
New features include WebSlices, which work rather like an RSS feed: instead of a text alert you get a grab of part of a web page, such as a weather or traffic report, with graphics and interactivity. It also alerts you when a monitored web page changes.
IE8 also introduces Activities, which are services that can be installed and managed by the user. They fall into two categories: Look-up and Send. A Look-up activity would allow you to select the address od a restaurant and automatically to be taken to a map of its location.
A Send Activity would allow you to select a portion of an interesting articler and have it transferred automatically to the a blog-edit pane.
IE7's Links bar has been revamped and renamed the Favorites bar, and includes links to programs as well as to sites.
An improved Phishing filter warns you when you go to sites masquerading as legitimate ones to trick you into giving banking details.
An Automatic Crash Recovery feature is designed to return you as closely and as quickly as possible to your browser's status at the time of the crash.

It's not suitable for everyday browsing, but if you fancy giving it a test run you can download it from these sites:

Here's A Windows Vista Tip
Clip with the Windows Snipping Tool
Windows Vista has a neat, built-in software program called the Snipping Tool that enables you to grab little clippings of either words or images, annotate them, and then add them to a variety of Windows Vista, documents. (Note that this feature is not available in the Home Basic version of Vista.)
To clip with the Windows Snipping Tool, follow these steps:
1. Choose Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Snipping Tool.
2. In the Snipping Tool window that appears, click the down-arrow on the New button and choose a snip mode from the drop-down list:
• Free Form Snip lets you draw any old kind of line you like, such as a triangle, to define what you want to snip.
• Rectangular Snip does what it says: When you click and drag over a region, it forms a rectangular snip.
• Window Snip allows you to select an active window to snip.
• Full-Screen Snip takes the entire enchilada, capturing the whole screen in the wink of an eye.
3. If you chose Free Form or Rectangular in Step 2, click and drag on the desktop or in a document to form an area to snip.
If you chose Windows, click on the window you want to snip.
If you chose Full-Screen, the snip happens automatically.
4. In the mark-up window that appears, use the Pen, Highlighter, and Eraser tools to mark up the image.
5. Click the Save Snip button that looks like a computer disk to display the Save As dialog box.
Enter a filename, and specify the location in which to save the file.
6. Click Save.

The software product will be presented in its full functionality, without any limitations save for those mentioned in Terms and Conditions.
The download link will remain on thier web-site for the agreed period of time, together with the review of the software product and the information about other products from the software publisher presenting the giveaway title.
Both reviews and the information on the product line will remain active even when the Giveaway period is over.

| | ieSpell - A Spell Checker for Internet Explorer ieSpell is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries). Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution. Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application. The program installs as a new button in the IE toolbar (as well as a new menu item under "Tools") - after filling in a form, just hit the ieSpell button and it pops up a dialog, similar to the MS Word spell check. ieSpell also works (right-click menu only) on other IE based browsers such as SlimBrowser, CrazyBrowser, MSN, MyIE, etc. ieSpell is not spyware or adware. It's free for personal use only. | Features- Completely standalone spell checker for your web browser. Does not require Microsoft Office or any other third party components.
- Integrates flawlessly with Internet Explorer and other IE based browsers.
- Three ways to start the spell check; via the right click context menu, the toolbar or the menu bar.
- Supports a wide range of web applications including simple text forms, rich text editors, forums, blogs, webmail (including Outlook Web Access and Lotus iNotes) and more!
- Spell check in any of the 3 variants (US, UK and Canadian) of the English Language!
- Suggestions are sorted by the degree of closeness with the misspelled word.
- Intelligent suggesting for misspelled words using typographic “looks like” matching.
- Easily add/remove your personal words in ieSpell via an intuitive user interface!
- Organize your personal words in individual custom dictionaries! Share them with your friends and co-workers over the network!
- Integrates with Microsoft Office's proofing tools. Have ieSpell share the same copy of the custom dictionary so that when you add/remove your personal words in ieSpell, the same is reflected in Microsoft Office and vice versa!
- ieSpell suggested a word that you are not familiar with? Look up its meaning in an online dictionary!
- Powerful API for web application developers.
- Force users to spell check the document before submission.
- Ignore certain text fields.
- Refuse a form submission if the user cancels the spell check!

Firefox 3 Hits 19 Million Downloads
Launch pushes market share over 19 per cent.
Mozilla's Firefox 3 browser has reached roughly 19 million downloads in its first week of availability.
The company revealed on Tuesday morning that it had served up some 10 million downloads in the past six days. By Tuesday afternoon, the total had reached 19.6 million.
More than eight million copies of the browser were distributed in the first 24 hours.
Some 5.48 million downloads were recorded in the US, 1.7 million in Germany, one million in Japan and 807,900 in the UK.
Mozilla kicked off the Firefox 3 campaign with an effort to set a new Guinness World Record for the most downloads in a 24-hour period.
The event was almost too successful, as users nearly knocked out Mozilla's servers in the early hours of availability.
Mozilla is still waiting to hear from Guinness judges regarding verification of the record.
And Now ...
Bug Hunters Make Short Work of Firefox
First vulnerabilities surface for new browser
Security researchers have wasted no time in prodding Firefox 3 for possible security holes.
Just five hours after the browser made its public debut, the first remote code execution vulnerability was reported.
Security firm Tipping Point revealed on Wednesday that it received the report via its Zero Day Initiative service shortly after the browser was released.
Tipping Point has declined to release the name of the researcher who discovered the flaw, nor is it disclosing any further details on the vulnerability until a patch is prepared.
However, the flaw is categorized as a 'critical' vulnerability that could allow an attacker to remotely execute code on a user's computer.
Tipping Point said that it had sent the report to Mozilla and that developers were currently working on a fix for the flaw.
The security company plans to disclose further details on the nature of the vulnerability once a patch has been issued. No attacks targeting the vulnerability in the wild have been reported.
Security firms F-Secure and Secunia both recommend that users mitigate the risk by following best practices such as avoiding suspicious links and steering clear of untrusted sites.
